Marco Santarelli


Writer, director, documentary producer and television author. During his university studies he approached the documentary making the first short films for the Audiovisual Laboratory of the Department of Sociology of the University La Sapienza in Rome and the satellite channels Raisat and Cultnetwork. In 2000, he began to collaborate with Rai educational and Sky (Canal Jimmy and planete), designing and making documentaries, surveys, experimental formats.

In 2009 he directed his first feature-length film: “GenovaTripoli”, the first episode of a trilogy of documentaries dedicated to the world of global transport. “GenovaTripoli”is in competition in the international section of 50th Festival dei Popoli di Firenze and wins best Italian documentary the 9th edition of the Tek Festival in Rome: on the borders of the world inside the West.

Also in 2010 he realizes a medium length “Interporto”, filmed at the interporto of Bologna and the second chapter of the trilogy of the global transports. “Interporto” is selected at 27th Torino Film Festival in the doc. Italian section.

In 2011 he founded the production Ottofilmaker and with the support of Apulia Film Commission is producer and director of the feature film “Scuola Media”, a documentary filmed in the Luigi pirandello Middle School in Taranto. “Scuola Media” wins the UCCA award at 29th Torino film Festival and the “Prix Restitution du travail contemporain” at the Festival Internationale “filmer le travail” of Poiter and is selected in the 33rd international competition Cinéma du Réel (Paris).

In 2012 he is director and co-producer of the short science fiction “Un mondo meglio che niente”, special mention of the jury on 30. Torino Film Festival. Also in 2012 he co-produces and directs his third feature film: “milleunanotte”, shot in a Bologna prison: Dozza. “Milleunanotte” participated in the 2012 edition of the Rome International Film Festival.
